Reconnecting the past…

On November 10, 2017November 10, 2017 By grassupthemiddle5 Comments

Its been a few days now since I sucked that cold air into my lungs on a midweek ride, the final part of the puzzle to kick start a chest cold that had been lingering since the weekend. A few days of doing nothing but moping about coincided with poor weather, so they were tolerable …

Turned out nice again…

On November 5, 2017November 6, 2017 By grassupthemiddle3 Comments

A rough stuff ride in search of Charlie (and a suitable breakfast spot!) After a shaky 24 hrs weather wise, which necessitated a few tweaks to the original plan (MTB’s swapped for mudguarded machines) Myself, Steve & Graham gathered at the meeting spot in good spirits. All confident that the forecast would hold true and …

A perfect day…

About a month or so ago I sent a letter. Wanting nothing in return it was sent with one purpose, to say thank you! It was sent to David Warner. The man responsible for bringing the world of one Charlie Chadwick to life ( please see previous post - Pot of gold... ) Charlie’s diaries ( 4 …

Started in May 1955 at the 'Black Swan' in Leominster by, amongst others, our old mate and hero Charlie Chadwick! The RSF is a national club for cyclists who enjoy riding on bridleways, tracks and quiet lanes. Myself and a number of the #grassupthemiddle gang are members and if you've been following this blog long …

The changing of the seasons in Cheshire…

On September 8, 2017 By grassupthemiddle1 Comment

Its early September and its happening already, once again the summer failed to really get going, the odd couple of days of warmth but rarely hitting those balmy evenings that we so desire. Lots of good riding happened (despite failing to get away for our 'un meeting ' ) over the summer month, new lanes …

1st Wednesday of the month…

On November 6, 2016 By grassupthemiddleLeave a comment

From our 'Rough Stuff Fellowship' correspondent. Wednesdays aren’t a bad day for me, I get to go to the pub, my favourite local cycle café is open and my long suffering wife goes to her mum’s (for a different kind of suffering) so I can get out on my bike. However, this is the first …

The idea…

On October 19, 2016October 19, 2016 By grassupthemiddleLeave a comment

From our 'Rough Stuff Fellowship' correspondent. Well, I had an idea. Wouldn’t it be fun to pick a youth hostel at random, stay overnight and ride the afternoon before and the morning after our stay. I thought it was a good idea, but only had one taker (Mick Ely - fellow RSF member) we decided to …

Trainspotting…

On October 18, 2016October 18, 2016 By grassupthemiddleLeave a comment

From our 'Rough Stuff Fellowship' correspondent.   Well just four of us, all RSF members, met at Burrs Country Park almost due North of Bury for a 10.00 am set off. We delayed slightly (but not much) because of the rain, hoping it might clear up, when it became evident it wasn’t going to we …

Hadrian’s cycleway…

On September 17, 2016October 7, 2016 By grassupthemiddleLeave a comment

From our 'Rough Stuff Fellowship' correspondent. My mate Keith and I have cycled the middle and Easterley end of HCW, the middle was interesting (lots of forts) the Newcastle bit was the best cycling. However, in order to complete HCW we need to do the Western bit – Carlisle to Ravenglass. So we set dates, …

The Sunday Service will be an extension of last weeks ride, exploring around Lindow Moss and through back lanes to Knutsford, home through Tatton Park, a bit further this week, around about forty miles, meeting at the bench on the canal at Stretford at 8am, all very welcome, socialable pace, bring snacks After last Sundays fail we’ll try again, visiting Lindow Common looking for new tracks and trails, meeting at 8am at the benches on the canal at Stretford, everyone welcome to join, bring snacks and smiles, sociable pace around about thirty miles There's a new post up on the blog! The Boss is obviously in a nostalgic mood this afternoon 🤗 Come Sunday and we’ll be out exploring, heading out towards Lindow Common looking out for new tracks to explore, we’ll be meeting at the benches on the canal at Stretford at 8am to beat the crowds, everyone welcome to join, bring a flask and some grub, pace as always will be sociable, maybe thirty miles at most Not only has spring arrived but it feels as though summer is hurrying up close behind, experience tells us not to take the mudguards off just yet though 😉 Our new patches and stickers as designed by @illustratemybike have been flying out around the world for the last month or so, we told Frances that we’d try to find out where they’ve been once they’ve been stuck or sawn somewhere appropriate, if you are proudly sporting a Grassupthemiddle patch or sticker we’d love it if you could write a few words about where you’ve been together, photos would be good also, if you feel inclined to do so please use the DM facility to get in touch and we’ll gladly collate them together 😊 Sunday... On Sunday we’ll be heading out to the Cheshire lanes, meeting at the Riverbank Cafe at 830 then out across the moss towards a GUTM classic affectionatly known as Ole Pointless, all welcome, bring a flask and a smile, the ride will be about thirty flat miles and at a socialable pace The next Sunday Service will be a short ride out towards Lymm, meeting at 8am at the Riverbank Cafe and then across Carrington Moss towards the TPT, we’ll spend half an hour or so at the bench putting the world to rights and then retrace our steps back home, about twenty easy chilled out miles, all very welcome, bring a brew and a smile
